...You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35 (NLT)
We are coming off a "get" couple of days. Black Friday and Cyber Monday have been in everyone's inbox this week. I love to "get" but, oh, to give!
Today is Giving Tuesday. (It's a real thing! Look it up!)
When God began talking to me about this photography business dream, he impressed on me the desire to GIVE. He began showing me ways I could do this (which I will be thrilled to start implementing in 2016) and I got excited. Before this however, I just knew I wanted to be able to GIVE more. But where was the 'more' going to come from? We were already pretty maxed out.
What God began to show me was that with the right heart and with a little creativity, gifting, or sacrifice, there is always 'more' to give.
What inspired me most was hearing a preacher friend talk about his little girl. She was just a little thing at the time, maybe 7 if I had to guess. If memory serves me correctly, she became burdened for Missions giving. This little girl starting painting for the Lord. She painted pictures and auctioned them off, giving all the money to missions. This little girl in elementary school was finding a way to give. I could do something!
When people started asking me to take pictures for money, I knew this was my chance. I have this talent, and I can give with it. I decided to dedicate a certain sum from every session to Missions work. Sometimes that left me with a few bucks left over as "income" depending on the situation, but I know it is much better to give than to receive.
This week I balanced my books for my portfolio building year, and I was able to stuff a whole lot more in an envelope to give than I have ever been able to in the past. I know you aren't supposed to glorify when you give. I don't want that to be the focus here. Instead, I want you to know that you can do this, too!
If she can paint pictures, and I can take pictures, what else can be done? Can you have a garage sale once a year and donate the money? Can you do a bake sell at your church? Maybe you can sacrifice one day of coffee a week from your local Starbucks and drink the home-brewed variety? Can you take that $5 dollar bill once a week and put it in an envelope to GIVE? (That's $260 you would have drank that year that you can now bless someone with.)
I encourage you all to find a way to make Giving Tuesday a part of your lifestyle. You will be blessed! I am a living witness to that truth. This project, Lindsey DeCicco Photography, is committed to giving.
Happy Holiday Season,
