There’s a letter board in Kara and Dan’s living room that stopped me in my tracks the moment I saw it. It read:
“There is no such thing in anyone’s life as an unimportant day.”
— Alexander Woollcott
Yes. That’s it. That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to show you through my family films.
Your family’s every day — no matter how ordinary, messy, or “nothing special” it may feel — is full of beauty. Another family filmmaker once told me something that’s stuck with me ever since:
No day will ever look exactly like it does today, ever again.
Whoa. Isn’t that the truth? We often don’t realize what’s changing right in front of us — the small voices, the little hands, the giggles that echo through the house — until they’re gone. And that’s why these films matter so deeply. They give you something to hold onto, to revisit, to feel again years down the road.
When Kara first reached out, she said she was excited — excited for the reminder of how beautiful her right now is. And that just hit me. We can all relate to that, especially after a few years that have stretched and tested all of us.
This session was a pause — a deep breath — a quiet reminder to be fully present. To Be Here Now (as her tattoo says), and to enjoy one another for an afternoon without distractions or expectations.
The laughter, the quiet moments, the tender hugs… this family film is a reflection of that love.
“You are good for my heart.”
The song I chose for this film repeats that line — “You are good for my heart.”
And honestly? That’s exactly how I feel about this session. It was good for my heart to create it. To witness this family’s connection, their humor, their tenderness.
Kara, Dan, and the boys — thank you for letting me into your world for a day. I hope when you watch this film years from now, it brings you right back to these moments — to the warmth, the noise, and the beauty of your every day.
