Stephanie’s main goal during the time I spent with her was this: “Documenting this messy/busy, but beautiful stage of life. The years go by so quickly and I would love the opportunity to freeze time for a bit in a frame.”

She wants time to freeze a little bit because she is adding one more to the bunch. Her last, sweet baby. Having family pictures and a family film made before the newcomer arrives was important because she knows just how fast things change.

This session could not have been easier. They talked about the coming baby and snuggled a bit. Mom was a little worried that they were talking over each other. A certain Mr. 5 Year Old rough housed a little. Miss 2 Year Old Whined a bit. That was fine with me, because in between those moments, I was hearing the cutest conversation about how excited this family is to have another one to love.

This film gets me in the guts. That last line between Madison and Dad? Tears. Let’s watch!

Was that the sweetest? What a beautiful family. If you’d love to do a film session like this, let me be crystal clear. All you need is a big bed and an hour to focus solely on your kids. Just chat with them. I will turn it into a beautiful time capsule sure to give you so much joy.

You may have noticed a scene in the film where Dad golfs with Max. Stephanie had a special request.

“Mike was in a life-threatening accident in 2019. I know the focus of our session will be maternity, but I'd love a special shot of him playing a sport (basketball, baseball or golf?) with the kiddos, as that was something he didn't think he'd be able to do at one point.”

Look how far he has come! My other career is Physical Therapy in acute care, so I was thrilled to be seeing a survivor so far out from his accident doing so, so well. I’m usually only seeing people in those first few days, maybe weeks after their injuries, so being able to see someone doing so well was such a blessing. I’m so proud of him and the rest of this family for all the hard work they have put in over the last 3 years.

It was so fun including the whole family in this maternity session. Why not? Come to think of it, I can’t really think of any maternity sessions that I’ve seen that DO include the whole family, and I can’t think of one reason not to make this the normal.
