Picking a Location by Look - Part 1

When a photography client doesn’t know where to get their pictures taken, they often give me the freedom of selecting my favorite spot. While I appreciate the trust in me, I do like to give some guidance. I’m sharing a couple of quick general options here to help give you a visual. This is the first post in a 3 part series.

The important thing to know, is that your location choice will often dictate the WHEN. Different months are better for each of these looks. If one of these first two looks hits the bullseye for you, inquire about when it’s best to schedule a session there.

Look 1: Beach

Everyone around here knows how lucky we are to have Lake Michigan so close. It’s beautiful and fun and one of my favorite places in the world. It’s a little tricky to get to at sunset with little kids during the summer, but during late August and September, the sun sets early enough for even the tiniest littles.

Some families prefer a sunrise session. Get it done, out of the way and have the whole rest of the day to play. This is a popular option for summer vacationers with little kids who would not be able to stay up til sunset or who would be exhausted after a long day playing on the beach. I love this option.

My favorite beaches to photograph at are New Buffalo and Tiscornia, but I am always up for a new place!

Look 2: Field

I feel like this is the basic Indiana photography location, since fields are so plentiful. The look of the field will vary completely with the seasons. Knowing what you’re draw to allows me to schedule you at the right place at the right time. Some of my favorite shots ever have been taken with a “field” look. Behold.

If you’re saying YES YES THAT ONE to either the beach or the field, inquire today to get on the schedule at the right time for the look you want. Talk soon!
