Picking a Location by Look - Part 1
When clients aren’t quite sure where to have their photos taken, they often let me choose my favourite spot. While I love having that trust, I also like to give a little guidance so we can find the perfect setting for you.
This is the first post in a 3-part series showing you a few general options to help you visualise your session.
One important thing to know: your location choice will often dictate the when. Different months are better for different looks. So if one of these first two options catches your eye, reach out so we can schedule your session at the ideal time of year.
Look 1: Beach
We’re so lucky to have Lake Michigan right here. It’s beautiful, it’s fun, and it’s one of my absolute favourite places in the world to photograph.
That said, timing is key.
Sunset Sessions
In the summer can be tricky with little ones, but from late August through September the sun sets early enough for even the tiniest kids to join in.
Sunrise Sessions
There are other great options. We get that gorgeous morning light, it’s done early, and you have the whole day ahead to play. This works especially well for families vacationing in the summer with young children who can’t stay up late or would be worn out after a full day at the beach.
Some of my favourite beaches to photograph are New Buffalo and Tiscornia, but I’m always open to exploring new spots if you have one in mind.
Look 2: Field
Around here, fields are an Indiana photography classic—plentiful and beautiful in every season. The look changes completely depending on the time of year, from golden summer light to rich autumn tones.
