Extended Family Photos in South Haven, MI: Capturing Precious Memories
If youβre planning a family getaway to South Haven, Michigan, why not make the most of it by scheduling a family photo session? (Get my local girl secrets to my favorite SW Michigan beaches here.)
Imagine gathering your entire crew β from the grandparents to the kiddos β and freezing those precious memories in time. Trust me, this is a BIG YES from me. Whether you're celebrating a milestone or just enjoying quality time together, these photos will forever be a reminder of your special getaway.
Location: Dyckman Park
This extended family session took place at Dyckman Park, located just behind the access to Dyckman Beach. This charming park sits between Lake Michigan and the Maritime Museum, offering a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere for family photos. With the boats at the marina and the nearby coffee shop, itβs a spot that combines nature and nautical vibes. Pro tip: If you need a coffee break after the session, swing by Bundeβs Bakery and Cafe for a sticky pecan roll. Trust me, itβs worth it!
But what if youβre thinkingβ¦
We donβt want the beach!
Newsflash! Just because youβre vacationing at the beach doesnβt mean you need to shoot your family photos on the sand. In fact, there are several reasons why beach photos may not be the best fit for your crew. For starters, if someone in your family has mobility issues β whether due to age, injury, or disability β walking on the sand can be challenging. Then, thereβs the potential for distractions. If you have little ones (especially ones under 4 years old), the beach can become more of a playground than a photo shoot location. And letβs not forget about the timing: sunrise sessions are the best for capturing that gorgeous light, but not everyone is up for a 6 AM wake-up call, especially on vacation. For those who prefer to sleep in or canβt stay up late, a park might be a much better option for your family photo session.
Parks near beach towns are great options
South Haven, Holland, Union Pier, St. Joseph, or New Buffalo all offer incredible parks that make for perfect family photo spots. And hey, your vacation rental home could be an excellent option too! If you want to skip the beach but still get stunning family photos, letβs chat and find the perfect place for your session.
Details Iβm Loving:
What really stood out to me about this session was the energy of the family. With 16 people (including eight kids), the excitement was contagious! What made this shoot so special wasnβt just the stunning location, but how relaxed everyone was. With extended family photos, it can often feel like youβre trying to herd cats, but this group made it so easy. We got beautiful shots full of genuine smiles and laughs, and the whole crew was so at ease, which made for an effortless and enjoyable session. A family photo session should never feel stressful, and this one truly wasnβt!
