Hey, mama.

You probably remember that feeling—the one when you know your family is about to change and grow. I remember it well. For me, there was a period where I had four and a half years with my oldest before our next baby arrived. Those years with our first born felt magical. We had our routines, our special times, our systems, and our favorite activities. It was easy to think that our little family of three was complete and that it was just right.

I also remember feeling a little bit panicked. There was this worry: Could I love another child as deeply as I loved my first? What if I resented the change or felt that our perfect life together was being disrupted?
Can anyone else relate? It’s a strange mixture of excitement for the next chapter of life and dread about the changes that are coming. You know everything will be different—but you’re not exactly sure how, and that’s hard.

Then, the baby arrives. And somehow, you do settle into a new normal. The love you have for this new little one? It's bigger than you ever thought possible, in ways that words can’t describe.

A Glimpse into the Present

This Granger family asked me to document their “right now,” those fleeting moments that are so precious because they know their life is about to shift. They’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of a new baby, and it’s clear that the little ones they already have dominate their evening hours. Between dinner and bedtime, their parents are completely wiped, only to start again the next day. But even with the exhaustion, it’s clear how full of love their home is. It’s those wash-rinse-repeat days of baby-kindergarten years that, while tiring, are also filled with so much joy and memories.

It was such a privilege to capture the beauty of this season of life—before their world changes, before they bring another little one into the fold. These moments are priceless, and someday when they’re years removed from this stage, they’ll have a beautiful time capsule to look back on and cherish.
