Whenever I get a call to photograph a Notre Dame session, I always expect those clients to move away after their time at school. But something about the campus and the Notre Dame community keeps them coming back. I often think I’ll never see them again — and then they return for a special moment in their lives. Whether it’s a family session, a baptism, or a proposal, it’s always an honor to be invited back to capture their next chapter.
This time, it was an extra-special request. A past graduate reached out, asking if I would photograph a surprise proposal! After photographing their Notre Dame grad session, he came back to plan this big moment — and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to help.
Location Details
The proposal took place in the most beautiful spot — Notre Dame University, in South Bend, Indiana. The couple began their day reminiscing by the Golden Dome and the Basilica, before moving to the back side of the lake near the Moreau Monastery. As the excitement of the Ohio State/Notre Dame football weekend buzzed in the distance, the two of them shared quiet moments, leading up to him dropping to one knee in a place that meant so much to both of them.
The location made all the difference — that stunning view of the campus and the lake provided the perfect backdrop for this unforgettable moment.

What stood out the most for me was how well everything came together for the proposal. The secret planning, the excitement in his eyes, and the final moment when she said YES — it was one of those magical moments I was lucky enough to capture. And the best part? It was just like a scene out of a movie — Notre Dame, the lake, the golden hour light. All those little details that made it unforgettable.
And just like that, they became engaged on the very campus where their journey started.
