Indiana Dunes Family Videography Session | Creating Memories to Last a Lifetime
When a repeat film client asks you to join her family on vacation to the Indiana Dunes to capture memories of a lifetime—say less! Working at the beach has got to be one of the best ways to spend the day. There's nothing like the combination of fresh air, fun, and, of course, the sand between your toes. This session at Indiana Dunes State Park was especially meaningful to me.
The Story Behind the Session
As I was chatting with mom on the beach, she shared with me why it was so important for her to hire me for family videography. She opened up about growing up with ZERO footage from her childhood. Can you imagine? A lack of those nostalgic family videos, the ones we often take for granted?
She’s doing something special for her kids—giving them memories in motion, preserving moments that she didn’t have growing up. I know from personal experience how much it means to see yourself as a child, but there’s also something beautiful about seeing your parents young and carefree. The way they laugh, the moments of tenderness, and how they focused their attention on you.

The Carefree Nature of the Session
This family is incredible. They spend so much time focusing on providing care for their child, especially with their regimented health routine. But through the lens of this session, I wanted them to see that, while life is full of care, it’s also full of joy. Fun can absolutely be had—even amidst the hard moments. And oh, did we have fun!
Details I’m Loving - Indiana Dunes Adventures
The boys were in their element at Indiana Dunes State Park. They love camping, hiking through the woods, checking out leaves, “hay-corns,” walking sticks, and, of course, bugs. But the best part was watching them at the beach. The youngest had his own idea of fun—he couldn’t get enough of the sand, constantly picking it up and letting it slip through his fingers. When we reached the water, he stomped around in his boots, kicking up so much sand that it took us a while to get to the water (a little chaos can be so charming).
Now, his older brother? He was all about precision. He meticulously gathered rocks and sticks, creating a well-thought-out sandcastle complete with a moat. I could tell he had a true artist’s mind, as the castle was built with so much care. But little man? He was army crawling through the tide pools, shouting to the world how full of water his diaper was. He was a total trip—and such a contrast to his older brother!
A Fun Day by Lake Michigan
Lake Michigan that day was windy, hot, and absolutely beautiful. Early June had finally given us our first taste of summer, after a late spring warm-up. I must admit, the sand in my eyes for three days afterward was no fun, but this session was worth every grain. From the sand dunes to the sparkling water, every moment was full of joy, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have been a part of this family’s story.
Client Love
"We absolutely LOVE the video! It perfectly captures their personalities and gives us a slice of joy and carefree moments. Favorite parts include Everett’s genuine smile on the wooden steps (so him!) and Alden stomping his little booted foot in the water, followed by him falling in—too cute! Also, the shot of our boots in focus with us playing in the background is perfect. And the photos—SO many favorites! I’m so happy we did this trip for our film.
You are incredibly talented! The different angles, perspectives, and slowed-down moments are just spot on. Thank you for capturing this for us—this collection of films is already one of my most prized possessions. The boys are still obsessed with firefighting, and we recently talked about what we'd save in a fire. I said our films and photos without hesitation!"
