Union Pier and New Buffalo Extended Family Photos

During the first week of October, this Chicago family decided to take a quick getaway to a charming Union Pier townhome. They were there to spend some much-needed time with the grandparents, and mom thought it was the perfect opportunity to capture family memories. With her kids growing up so quickly, she knew the value of having a beautiful family photo to cherish. The best part? This stunning beach is just a short trip from the city, and it’s become a favourite spot for their family.

One of my absolute favourite parts of my job is working with extended families. There's something incredibly special about seeing the bond between grandparents, parents, and kids. It reminds me of how I hope my own children will cherish the memories we make together when they grow up. These family photos will forever hold such meaning to them.

The day of the session was a bit tricky because we only had one chance to make it work. Of course, as the day approached, I was praying for good weather. But when I arrived at the beach that morning, we were met with crazy winds! The beach was far from ideal for family photos in those conditions, but this amazing family was determined to make it happen. We spent about 10 minutes braving the beach before quickly pivoting to Plan B.

Luckily, just down Red Arrow Highway in New Buffalo is the lovely Galien River County Park, which was just what we needed! It was a little tucked away from the lake and had none of the winds we’d battled at the beach. What a relief! It turned out to be the perfect backdrop for these family photos, and I couldn’t be more grateful for their flexibility.
