Top 10 Moments Captured on Video in 2021 | Part 1
During the slow cold weather season in northern Indiana, I always address the boring business stuff. The newsletter. The website. Organization. You know… getting all the ducks in a row.
For one of these big organization projects, I wound up watching almost all of my Client Family Films from the year. It was such a joy. Typically, I am studying these films intently during the culling, editing and delivery process, and then they take a back seat to the next project. Occasionally, I don’t see them again after that. Being able to sit down and watch those videos again had me grinning like an idiot, crying at times, but most of all feeling so darn grateful for the photography and especially videography clients that have chosen to let me enter their lives and give them these amazing gifts!
I truly have the best photography clients in Michiana!
Watching all of these films play back left me wanting to share them all over again. This is part 1 of my favorite 10 moments captured on video from last year.
For all of you that love the modern family home video and don’t know where to start, you’ll see from these clips that there is really nothing to it. I know what I am looking for… and I always seem to find it when I’m with you. Leave the connection hunting to me. You all just need to spend time together! Seriously!
You’ll also see here that like many of you, I place a high value on sentimentality, but also on realism. A little tantrum here, a “blooper” there… adding just a drop or two of reality into your film grounds it and takes away all those thoughts like “my family isn’t perfect so I can participate in a session like this”. Hogwash!
Without further ado, let’s get to it!

Cara kept saying “this really is such a good representation of our normal day”. Between all the calm, sweet, moments, we went to the basement for some “crazy playing” as she called it. I loved getting a glimpse of this super fun dad with his kids. There was so much fun happening, that little miss could not even be bothered about getting her hair in a ponytail. I love this clip. Their film and photo blog post.

I love this whole film, but I particularly loved when Nikki’s son embraced her like this. My second favorite clip is when you see Nikki lift up her hefty little girl. You can just feel how heavy she is when you see Mom’s face! Ha! There are so many beautiful moments of connection both in the film and the photos. One of my favorites of the whole year.

I love this moment. This clip actually keeps going and going and going which is even better, but for the song I had to edit it down. Right before this, mom found out that he had been carrying a dinosaur around in his pocket. That is such a preschool thing! I remember the pockets being ever-full of treasures when my kids were that age. When she found it, they laughed really hard, and then when she picked him up, he wanted to give her a kiss. Instead he licked her cheek. Haha! So glad I was filming. I loved this whole session, rain and all.

Back to back favorite moments right here. Notice how easy it is to get good stuff for a film! Bed, check. Family engaged with one another, check. That's it! You guys can do this for sure. Right when the camera started rolling, this little guy decided to do a trick for the first time and his parent’s reaction is perfect! Shortly after, dad reached around to rub mom’s back and I had swung myself over there so fast so I wouldn’t miss it. I love it.

This grandparent film is so special to me. There was this really long scene with Grandpa trying to convince the kids to try a paw paw fruit. I felt like it was a risk to include the whole thing, but I also felt like these kids are going to treasure a long clip of their grandparents one day more than I will ever know. There’s a line in this scene that is SUCH a grandpa thing to say! I bet you can guess what it is. All their photos and their whole film can be seen here.
Alright, that’s it for now! Make sure you come back for my favorite 5 moments. They are so good! <3
