A Family Photographer That Grows With Your Family | Lindsey DeCicco Photography, South Bend, Indiana

Making a purchase for anything seems to require so much work. Maybe it’s becoming a better consumer, or a less impulsive shopper, but I am heavy in the reviews and research before I click “buy”. Take for instance our lightbulbs. When we moved in to our new house last spring, there were so many lightbulbs that needed replacing. I didn't love the temperature (holla to all my fellow photographers that have their favorite Kelvin lightbulb!) While temperature of the lightbulb was my number one concern (nerd), I also was interested in energy savings, quality, ease of finding the replacements, etc. Finding the right ones, in the right sizes, for all the new fixtures that I wasn’t familiar with left me overbuying, returning and kind of going crazy for the last year. So much research over something seemingly so dumb. I still don’t have it right.

Finding a new photographer is just as much of a research project isn’t it? I think we all know this is true with something like weddings. We perform our due diligence to find the right person with the right aesthetic to capture our big day. There’s only one shot to get it right, so you have to find the best.

Do you use the same research plan to find a photographer for all your other stages of life? Finding the right family photographer is just as important as finding the right wedding photographer. The research can add up to be quite a bit of work, especially when looking for separate newborn photographers, family photographers, senior photographers and extended family photographers. Ugh.

Let me help you out here a little. Lindsey DeCicco Photography is a complete family photography business. When you hire me for your hospital newborn session, or for your first days at home documentary photography and video session, you have found a photographer that will grow with you through your family’s every season.

Newborns? Check. I love a hospital session, a baby-led documentary session in the home, and especially newborn family films.

As your baby gets older, it’s fun to document their different stages. There’s just so much change in that first year, and if you’re baby sleeps like mine didn’t, it becomes pretty foggy in memory. Let me help you remember it. (PS- Because I’m not a posed baby photographer, there’s no reason we can’t wait a few weeks, or even a few months to get baby photos taken. Sometimes it’s a little better to wait for their personality to come out a bit!)

I even have a Grow With Me Film series for those of you that want me to come out several times that first year. The tears come every single time when I watch this one.

When you’re ready to welcome another baby, maternity pictures are available. Whether you want to do this at home or at a special place, I’m game. Want to write the baby a letter and read it over a video of your family preparing for it’s arrival? I’m extra game for that.

The kids get out of the baby stage, and you realize you haven’t taken family photos in a really long time. I got you.

I can go the more traditional route for a portrait session, or the more documentary route for your family session, for both film and photography.

Older kids about to leave the nest? Wanting to incorporate a few “senior pictures” into your family session? I do that anyway. During any family session, I am taking individual shots of each family member. I will still do that, but also center the session around the senior, much like we build a session around a newborn when it’s their time to shine.

Maybe your children are getting older into those teen years and you’re looking around and are realizing you don’t have any photos with your older child. That’s important, too. For you and for them, whether they act like it or not. Let’s take those photos.

Last but not least, we have the extended family. I know a lot of photographers run the other direction when this kind of inquiry comes in, but not me. I actually love extended family sessions. Photographing all those generations together makes me happy!

Photographs are great, but indulge me for a moment. Family films are the way to go with extended family sessions. First of all, you get the group photo with the session, too. So you’re getting the best of both worlds. But with a film you get so much more. You get grandma and grandpa’s moving image, their voice, their interactions with the children. You have a full picture of what they made with their marriage and their lives. Don’t believe me? Check this film out.

Whatever stage your family is in, from the sleepy newborn days, to the college years, I have got you covered. You don’t need to keep finding a new photographer for your different seasons of life. I’ll grow with you.
